Screenplay Competition and Table Read Series
Short and feature length scripts from all over the world are adjudicated by our outstanding panel of professional screenwriters, talent agents, playwrights and published authors. Intensive script coverage is available for purchase. Successful screenplays will have the opportunity to participate in the VHS Table Read Series.
After two successful and critically acclaimed seasons, VHS expanded its programming in 2020 to include the Table Read Series. The purpose of the program is to highlight the finalists in our screenplay competition and provide valuable resources for them as they move forward in their careers. Screenwriters submit their scripts for consideration in either the short or feature-length categories, and the top chosen screenplays are performed by professional actors and directors in live table reads. The writers are then offered critiques from a panel of industry professionals and given an opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance in honing their craft.

“In a year where the pandemic stopped a lot of fests dead in their tracks, the Vancouver Horror Show was reborn as a virtual destination for filmmakers and fans alike. And while other competitions followed suit (with varying results), the VHS team positively rocked it with unmissable content, top-quality panelists/judges, and a glitch-free user experience overall. I feel like I got to experience the best of the fest from the comfort of my computer. Thanks to the valiant efforts of their team --and an amazing troupe of local actors-- I was able to be part of a fantastic virtual live read for my script, "The Deliverer," which went on to win the VHS 2020 Short Screenplay Award.
